On Etiquette with Traditional Roots: The Rise of Image Consultant Danya Al-Saedan

07.01.2025

Danya Al-Saedan has always been driven by the desire to shape an objective image of her homeland, Saudi Arabia, in the eyes of the global community. After studying in the United Kingdom and becoming a consultant in international social etiquette and protocol, she returned home to educate her compatriots on societal behavioral norms. Danya pays meticulous attention to even the smallest details of appearance, body language, business card composition, and table setting, and she eagerly shares these nuances with others.
In an interview, Danya highlighted that her passion for this field was nurtured by her family environment. In her home, there was always a deep respect for dining manners, clothing choices, and, importantly, the norms accepted in other cultures. She earned a degree in International Business from SOAS University of London, followed by a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Westminster. Although she initially worked in banking and investments roles, she entered largely due to family connections, they were not her true calling. At the Academy of Etiquette and International Protocol in London, she obtained a trainer and consultant certificate and soon founded her own school, Etiquette House.
Danya's core philosophy is "etiquette for all". Today she conducts courses for individuals, companies, and even children. She advises clients on body posture appropriate for various events, organizing workspaces, arranging office supplies, and crafting invitations. When necessary, she oversees the conceptual aspects of meetings and conferences.
Danya discovered a significant gap between Western-adopted culture and Arab traditions. She believes that Saudi etiquette stems from religious foundations—the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. She also refutes the misconception that these norms are exclusive to the upper social classes. According to her, there's a growing interest in studying social behavior principles within Saudi society. Regional differences also play a role; for instance, in some areas, it's acceptable for the host to dine with guests at the same table, while in others, it's deemed inappropriate.
Danya is often consulted on organizing meals during the holy month of Ramadan: Suhoor, early in the morning, and Iftar, after sunset. For Suhoor, she recommends serving healthy snacks considering individual health conditions, and for Iftar, dishes rich in fats. Preferred items that add a traditional touch to the meal include beans and tamarind.

Her ability to learn quickly and patiently promote her ideas among fellow citizens has made her a symbol of the national strategic program "Vision 2030." Danya possesses the energy and expertise to instill in Saudi society a sense of responsibility for their nation and its image, manifested in harmonious relationships with friends, colleagues, and partners, including international ones. Her personal style, developed with local photographers and designers, complements her genuine desire to set a positive example and remain a guiding star for millions.
