Her appearance at the 2024 Olympics in Paris brought a wave of confidence and national pride to the Saudi Arabian team. A member of the royal family, Princess Reema skillfully balances her mission to elevate her homeland’s sports image with her diplomatic responsibilities: following in her father’s footsteps, she represents Riyadh’s interests in Washington.

At the same time, the Princess actively supports women in their fight against cancer and promotes a culture of health awareness among Saudis. The depth and diversity of her work have earned her admiration across all segments of Saudi society.

Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud is making history. From 1983 to 2005, she lived in the U.S. capital, where her father served as Saudi Arabia’s ambassador. She earned a bachelor's degree in museum studies from George Washington University and was later awarded an honorary doctorate from Marymount University.

At first glance, her path may seem effortless, shaped by her noble lineage. Yet Princess Reema has led a quiet revolution, proving to the world that women from Muslim countries can engage in high-level diplomacy—and that international partners respect and collaborate with them. What is this, if not a victory against long-held stereotypes about the role of women in the Arab world?

Another cause close to the princess’s heart is sports. Few moments illustrate her passion more vividly than her visit to the Summer Olympics last year in Paris, where she came to cheer on her fellow Saudis.

Not only did she support young athletes from the stands, but she also actively shared their achievements on social media. She publicly congratulated 16-year-old Zaid Al-Sarraj on his debut victory in the 100-meter freestyle, and celebrated 17-year-old Mashal Al-Ayed, the first Saudi woman swimmer to compete on the world’s biggest stage.

But the royal’s interests go far beyond traditional disciplines. Princess Reema is determined to lead yet another breakthrough — positioning Saudi Arabia as the host nation for the 2025 Esports Olympic Games.

Her credentials in the world of sports speak volumes: she served as a member of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee (2017–2019), sits on the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Women in Sport Commission, and is part of the IOC’s Coordination Commission for the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane.

Princess Reema’s dedication to promoting this sphere of life carries a profound message. Through her efforts, she encourages Saudis to care not only for their bodies, but also for their minds and spirits. One of her most heartfelt causes is the fight against breast cancer — the most common form of the disease among women.

To shift public focus toward this urgent issue, she founded the 10KSA educational initiative and the Alf Khair Foundation. In 2015, a humanitarian campaign she organized earned a place in the Guinness World Records when 8,264 women formed the shape of a pink ribbon. That same day, a moving ceremony was held to honor women who had bravely undergone treatment and overcome the illness.

Yet for Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud, the goal was never about setting records. As she herself has said, the true purpose was to spark conversation — to break the silence around women’s health and inspire lasting change.

What truly sets her apart is her humility and deep compassion for the challenges faced by ordinary people.

Princess Reema’s popularity stems from her unwavering willingness to stand beside her fellow citizens — in moments of national triumph and during times of hardship — where her genuine desire to offer support becomes a symbol of hope for a better future.

Thanks to these qualities, Reema bint Bandar Al Saud is met with heartfelt admiration and respect in her homeland. She is not only deeply loved — she is deeply trusted.
